It has finally stopped raining and we can enjoy a beautiful sunrise.
Erg Chebbi
We had breakfast at the riad, eggs, bread, pancakes, jam, cheese, butter, natural juice, tea or coffee.
We decided to take advantage of the low temperatures in the desert (maximum 26 degrees Celsius) to take a walk on our own through the dunes and visit the palm grove.
Nomad camp
To cross the river we follow a local family, as it never rains they have no bridges. We are stopped by a 4x4 to see if we want to do a tour with them but we prefer to walk. Remember to take plenty of water, a hat and sun cream, after all we are in the desert.
Erg Chebbi
We make a circular route without going too far up and down the dunes until we reach the highest one where a group of kids ride their bikes up the dunes to go downhill in the sand.
Erg Chebbi
The views at the top are spectacular. It is fortunate to be able to be here practically alone. In other circumstances it would be unfeasible to walk here because of the heat.
Erg Chebbi
On the way back we visit the Merzouga palm grove where you can walk among the orchards and palm trees and see the irrigation ditches. Next to the palm grove you can visit the khettara area, where the Aragonese government made an important donation a few years ago for the maintenance of this ancestral system. This area lives from tourism and dates and this is the harvesting season.
Erg Chebbi
In the middle of the palm grove there is a small café where you can have a nice mint tea.
We eat at Said snack café for 222dh 4 pax. We recommend it, a clean and economical place where we were invited for a snack and a dessert.
Palm grove
In the afternoon we try to visit the women's cooperative, where a lot of literacy work is being done, but it is closed.
We return to the dunes to watch the sunset, although it is very cloudy.
