The fourth stage takes us from Huayhuash camp at 4,290 metres to Cuyocpampa camp at 4,550 metres via the Trapecio pass at 5,025 metres and the Trapecio viewpoint at 5,150 metres. Distance: 15 km. Elevation gain: 800 metres.

Like every morning, Ricardo arrives at 5.30 am to offer us coca tea to wake us up. It has been clear all night and it has frozen again, today 6 degrees below zero.

We pack up and have breakfast. There is a lot of humidity inside the tents.

A breakfast of champions: omelette, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, bread, and coca tea.

Today our snack is apples and biscuits.

We began walking towards the Trapecio Pass. Although the sun had come out, it was still quite cold.

The snow-capped Trapecio (5,653 metres) began to come into view as we climbed towards the pass.

We stop at an area of lagoons where the snow-capped mountain looks incredible. We continue until we reach the pass. Once there, we leave our backpacks and climb up to the viewpoint at 5,150 metres. The views of the glacier and the snow-capped mountain are IMPRESSIVE. This is probably the most spectacular day of the trip.

We descend the Trapecio pass for an hour and stop to eat. Once again, Giovanni outdoes himself with rice, vegetables and fried eggs—delicious. These men are so strong, carrying food for 13 people every day while doing the same route as the others with barely 4 kilos.

We descend through a rocky area next to the snow-capped peaks of Puscanturpa and Cuyoc, with beautiful formations sculpted by wind and water. These are basalt mountains whose walls resemble a church organ.

We arrived at Cuyocpampa camp, also known as Elephant camp due to a nearby rock shaped like an elephant.

The camp is divided into two areas and crossed by a small river. So we took the opportunity to dip our feet in the water.

Today we have one of the most beautiful sunsets, with the sun's rays reflecting off the mountain.

We have dinner around 6.30 pm.

As he does every night, Ricardo describes the route for the following day. Tomorrow we will be up at 5 am as the stage is longer.
